Frequently Asked Questions
Invented in the 1950s by a neuroscientist for research, Floating—also called Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST)—is a proven, holistic healing therapeutic that allows you to float on your back in 10 inches of water saturated with nearly 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salt.
An advanced ventilation and heating system keeps the water temperature at 93.5 degrees, closely mirroring average skin temperature.
Typically, there is no light or sound, but you can opt to have low lights and music on.
There are three available time sessions: 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes, with the last best- suited for experienced floaters.
After you acclimate, you will begin experiencing the peaceful, relaxing rejuvenation that only Floatation Therapy can provide. Two or more sessions are recommended to attain floating’s top benefits.
We provide just about everything you'll need, such as earplugs, towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner (using all-natural products), and additional amenities including a Vanity Room with hairdryers. You do not need a bathing suit for Floating, since it is a completely private experience and you'll be in your own personal Suite equipped with a private shower and changing area. You may want to consider bringing a hairbrush, contact lens case/solution, and any other personal toiletry items for after showering!
Yes, although we have multiple Float Rooms (3 at West Chester; 5 at Princeton), Floating is a private, individual experience. You may book two or more appointments at the same time if you want to bring a friend or family member with you, but you will each Float in your own private Suite.
New clients are required to arrive 15 minutes early so that one of our friendly and knowledgeable Team Members can provide you a tour, explain how everything works, and tell you some tips we’ve learned from Floating ourselves to ensure you have the best first Float with us possible!
We also recommend the following before Floating:
- Do not eat for one hour.
- Do not consume caffeine for four hours.
Before Floating, you are required to shower, and we provide "shower time" both before and afterwards to not take away from your actual Float time!
Our custom-built Float Rooms are much more open, modern and inviting, with a larger enclosure and more overhead space—eliminating the "claustrophobic" feel of other, smaller tanks and pods.
Here, no lid closes above you, and you step into your private, over-sized Float Therapy Room, entering through a normal, spacious glass door within your private shower. Music and lights are at your control.
It’s a whole new level of relaxation™!
Floating is extremely sanitary. We meet all local and federal health guidelines as well as those issued by the national Float Tank Association.
The concentration of medical grade Epsom salt prevents bacteria. All water is pumped through a state-of-the-art filtration system at least three times between Floats.
We also utilize the same ultraviolet (UV) light used in purification systems for drinking water and add a limited amount of food-grade hydrogen peroxide to ensure cleanliness, in addition to ozone, a natural oxidizer with a 99.9% effectiveness rate against viruses, including the Coronavirus.
We unfortunately cannot accommodate any recent hair dye or chemical treatment to hair within the last two weeks or so. Recent hair dye or other hair treatments must be washed a minimum of two times prior to Floating, to ensure the dye does not bleed).
Water with our levels of Epsom salt do not cause wrinkles. Instead, it leaves your skin soft and silky.
If you’re able to get relaxed enough to fall asleep, that’s great! Float Therapy can be the ultimate power nap, as research shows one hour of rest while floating equals almost four hours of deep sleep in your bed. Over a half-ton of Epsom salts makes the water buoyant enough to let you get relaxed enough to drift off to sleep!
We require children to be at least 14 years old in order to use the Spa's services. There is no height or weight restrictions for Float Therapy.
Some doctors call Floating a pregnancy-must. You should always consult your doctor, physician, or midwife regarding first. Float Therapy is typically NOT encouraged during the first trimester or final month of pregnancy.
