Our state-of-the-art Infrared Sauna features a gentle heat, not an unbearably hot experience so you can enjoy the soothing Infrared therapy!
Infrared Saunas offer a gentle, deep-penetrating heat, unlike traditional saunas that rely on steam to heat the air. Traditional saunas can be unbearably hot, make breathing difficult, and only cause surface sweating.
Infrared heat warms the body directly, raising core temperature by 2-3 degrees for a detoxifying, deep-tissue sweat, without the discomfort of extreme heat. Temperatures range from 140-158°F, compared to 180°F+ in traditional saunas, making Infrared Saunas more effective and comfortable for relaxation, circulation, and detoxification.
Studies have shown that Infrared heat therapy is at least SEVEN times more detoxifying compared to traditional saunas, with a total of 20% of all sweat being heavy metals and environmental toxins. Infrared is part of the invisible spectrum of light and directly penetrates human tissue, although it is completely safe and won’t cause your skin to burn.
Science has also demonstrated infrared’s ability to greatly improve the skin’s overall tone and appearance, offering natural anti-aging by boosting collagen production, which in turn reduces wrinkles. Infrared may also promote relaxation and improved sleep. You’ll love it
Infrared heat penetrates joints, muscles, and tissues, relieving aches, pains, and chronic conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis. It also reduces muscle spasms and speeds recovery, helping the body heal itself naturally.
Recommended Use: At least 2x per week for six weeks.
Sweating is good for you! It’s your body’s natural detox system… but surface sweat and deep sweat are different. Infrared Saunas heat your body directly by raising your core temperature, promoting a deeper detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where toxins reside.
This flushes out at least 7x more toxins than traditional saunas, with studies showing 20% of infrared-induced sweat is toxins, compared to just 3% from traditional saunas.
Recommended Use: At least 2-3x per week.
A 30-minute Infrared Sauna session can burn up to 400 calories while you relax! As your body works to cool itself, it increases heart rate, circulation, and metabolism, mimicking a light workout. It’s easy cardio…way better than the elliptical machine!
Recommended Use: At least 3x per week for 8-12 weeks.
Regular use improves circulation, lowers blood pressure, and increases oxygen flow to cells—boosting cardiovascular health naturally. Studies confirm significant improvements in blood pressure with infrared therapy, as the deep sweat makes your heart pump faster and increases blood flow in a manner similar to that seen during exercise.
Better blood circulation also means more toxins flow from the cellular level to get expelled at the skin’s surface, improving cell health and aiding in muscle recovery.
Recommended Use: At least 2-3x per week for 4-8 weeks.
Infrared light, particularly the near-infrared part of the spectrum, is among the most effective wavelengths at healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. The invisible light penetrates your skin directly and stimulates collagen production, reducing wrinkles and improving skin tone. Clinical studies show noticeable improvements in skin elasticity, clarity, and firmness within 12 weeks, leaving you with more radiant, glowing skin. A much more natural alternative to modern skin treatments like Botox… just be prepared for compliments!
Recommended Use: At least 3x per week for 12 weeks.
Regular use of an Infrared Sauna may strengthen the immune system by naturally boosting your levels of Vitamin D. Infrared heat also stimulates white blood cell production and mimics an artificial fever (a natural healing response of the body), strengthening your immune system to fight colds, flu, and infections - even stopping sickness before the symptoms occur when treated in early stages!
Recommended Use: At least 2-3x per week for ongoing wellness.
A friendly and knowledgeable Team Member will get you checked in and then guide you to your private Infrared Sauna room. For your first Infrared Sauna session, please plan on arriving 15 minutes early for check in and to receive an orientation.
Your Infrared Sauna session is scheduled for either up to 30 minutes or up to 60 minutes, depending on your preference when booking. Some guests prefer shorter sessions closer to only 30-45 minutes; however, the room itself is booked to accommodate your full session, along with time before and after to get changed, hydrate, and cool off a little before departing.
The Infrared Sauna will typically be pre-heated to about 140-160°F (the maximum temperature); please inform us in advance of your session if you prefer a different setting. The Infrared Sauna features soft colored lights and calming meditation music to let you sweat deeply, enjoy quiet and relaxation, and leave feeling refreshed and energized!
You'll want light, breathable clothing (kind of like gym clothes, such as shorts and a tank-top) or a swimsuit. We'll provide several towels, for use inside the Sauna and for after.
If you will be using other services besides the Infrared Sauna with your visit, you may want to bring a duffel bag for your clothes and belongings for ease in carrying across the various areas of the Spa. Additionally, we recommend NOT to apply lotion or oil to your body before your Infrared Sauna session.
If you'll be Floating AFTER your Infrared Sauna session, we also provide a robe and shower. Please note that if you are NOT Floating after using the Infrared Sauna, a shower will NOT be included.
You're welcome to bring a book to take inside the Infrared Sauna to read, but we recommend NOT to bring any personal phones or other electronic devices (including smartwatches) into the Infrared Sauna. While you can bring a device in, it may overheat and not function or charge properly until returned to a normal temperature, and, while minimal, risk exists of damaging your device by exposing it to the high temperatures of the Infrared Sauna.
Complimentary Spa water is provided, but there is a strict no bottles, drinks, or food policy within the Infrared Sauna, so you’ll want to ensure you hydrate fully both before and after.
How much you sweat depends on your individual body: sweat produced from Infrared is usually oilier and less watery than other sweating experiences. This is due to the high concentration of toxins in the sweat you’re expelling. While it may not be intuitive, guests should be aware that you may not sweat that much in your first few sessions, and that it is essential to stay hydrated (drinking at least 8 ounces of water before and after your session).
The majority of our guests who use the Infrared Sauna regularly to fully experience its benefits schedule sessions at least three times a week (which is also what scientific studies support). Additional specific therapeutic protocol recommendations depending on the reason for which an individual is using Infrared heat therapy (i.e. pain relief, weight loss, etc.) may recommend an even more frequent regiment. Immediately after an Infrared Sauna session you may feel refreshed and see a glow in your skin, similar to after a great workout. It also may take a few sessions before the body acclimates and begins to deeply detox and see all the benefits related to Infrared light therapy.
Unfortunately, you must be 18 years of age and older. Children under 18 years old may use the Infrared Sauna with a parent/guardian at no additional cost, but cannot use it alone.
While using an Infrared Sauna is generally safe for most people, there are certain medical conditions and medications which may have contraindications for using an Infrared Sauna and present reasons why an individual should NOT use the Infrared Sauna at East Coast Float Spa. Please review our Infrared Sauna Waiver (click here) for additional details of potential medical conditions and medications which should potentially prevent the safe usage of our Infrared Sauna.
Pregnant women are not advised to use the Infrared Sauna. Increasing body temperature above 100 degrees can increase risk of complications in pregnant women. Studies have shown that Far-Infrared rays have been shown to be a safe and effective way to increase lactation in breastfeeding mothers; however, we ask all individuals who may be pregnant and/or breastfeeding to please consult with your doctor, physician, midwife, or other health professional.
Yes, our Infrared Sauna is a three-person sized unit in order to give our guests a comfortable experience. Although we recommend only one- or two-person Infrared Sauna sessions, you may reserve the Infrared Sauna session with a significant other or friend, up to three total people. Additional guests may save $10 (per person), or may join free if part of an active Sauna Club Membership.
Sessions are offered either up to 30 minutes OR up to 60 minutes in length, and you have the Sauna room itself reserved privately. There is generally no rush, and we allow for time for getting dressed, refreshed and hydrated so you may enjoy up to the entire duration of your session inside the Infrared Sauna if you’d like!
If you wish to cancel or reschedule your session, we require 24 hours notice before your booked appointment. Sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours (or no-shows) will be charged for the full session and/or assessed a flat fee.
